Contribution of Padama Shree, Arjuna Awardee Master Chandgi Ram towards Wrestling in India

The history of sports in India dates back to the Vedic era. Since time immemorial sportsmen have created and broken records and their achievements and success stories have inspired generations. With the contribution of different sportspersons the country has won many glories at International level.
Among these sports persons who brought laurels for the country, Master Chandgi Ram keeps a unique place. It is only because of the contribution which he made in his field of sports that is wrestling. The contribution of Padama Shree, Arjuna Awardee, Hind Kesari Master Chandgi Ram is remarkable. He devoted his whole life to promote wrestling in India. He did not lose any fight against any opponent. He became famous and a sensation after winning gold medal in Asian Games (1970) by defeating world champion Amvani Abuifazi of Iran under 100kg.
