Relationship of Height of Centre of Gravity at Delivery Point with the Performance of Fast Bowlers in Cricket

Abstract

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationship of height of centre of gravity at delivery point with the performance of fast bowlers. Ten (10) East Zone/Inter University level right arm fast bowlers were selected for the purpose of the study in the terms of a purposive sample selection. The age was ranging between 18 to 28years. All the subjects were voluntarily agree to cooperate in the testing procedures. The data of fast bowling performance and biomechanical variables was administrated by capturing out-door bowling trials of each subject on video-graphy. Bowling performance was measured on the basis of subjective judgments of the experts on the basis of Run-up, Loading, Coiling and Uncoiling, Pace and Bounce of the ball, Accuracy of the ball, Difficulty in playing the ball by the batsman. Total fifty marks given by each expert and average scores of all three experts was considered as performance of fast bowling.  To know the nature of the data descriptive statistics i.e. mean, standard deviation were calculated. To know the relationship of centre of gravity with the performance of fast bowlers Pearson product-moment correlations were calculated. All the statistics were calculated with the help of SPSS 16.0 version software. The result of the study indicates that significant relationship of centre of gravity with fast bowling performance was observed. On the basis of results of the study it may be conclude that Significant relationship was found between fast bowling performance with height of centre of gravity at delivery point (r =-.819, p < .05).

Key words: Cricket, Anthropometric, Fast Bowling Performance.
