Abstract
This paper traces the evolution of basketball in Chhattisgarh from its roots in the erstwhile Madhya Pradesh to the
state’s emergence as a national force—especially in women’s and age group competitions. It examines the roles of statehood
(2000), grassroots academies, residential training models, coaching leadership, institutional support, and athlete pathways.
Using news reports, federation notes, athlete profiles, and archival features, the paper synthesizes how a relatively young state
carved a distinctive identity in Indian basketball.
Key words: Basketball in India, Basketball in Chhattisgarh.
