Gender-Based Comparative Study of Sports Competition Anxiety and Self-Esteem Among University Players

Abstract

The psychological profiles of sports person from various sports have been studied for a long time. However, they were elite level sports men. The objective of the research was to assess the two factors of the psychology of male and female University Athletes. The purpose of the present study was to compare the divergence of Sports Competition Anxiety and Self-Esteem between male and female University Athletes. 80 players (male = 40, female = 40) who have participated in the University. The subjects for this study were chosen at random and ranged in age from 18 to 25 years old, with a level of significance of 0.05. To measure the Self-Esteem between male and female University Athletes a questionnaire developed by Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale was employed and to measure Anxiety between male and female University Athletes a questionnaire developed by Rainer Martens and for statistical analysis and interpretation of data mean, standard deviation and ‘t’ test was conducted. Result- In this study, the researcher concluded that the test instrument used for data collection was very useful for compare level of anxiety, and self-esteem among the male and female University Athletes.
